Under the motto “Books That Read the Times and the Future, Books That Are Fun and Moving,” EunHaeng NaMu publishes Korean and international literature, humanities, and non-fiction. Our books have been favorably received by readers and critics alike. Through our bi-monthly magazine Axt (launched in 2015) and annual full-length novel prize competition, we strive to discover emerging voices in the Korean literary world. Our backlist includes such Korean writers as Jeong You Jeong, Lee Jung-myung, Sohn Won-pyung, Cho Nam-ju, Chang Kang-myoung, Chung Serang, Choi Jin-Young, I Seosu, and Han Yi-ri—authors who have won the hearts of readers and critics alike for the excellent literary value, strong narratives, and popular appeal. We’ve published several prominent international authors, including George R.R. Martin (author of the series of epic fantasy novels A Song of Ice and Fire), Colson Whitehead (winner of the Pulitzer Prize), Jonathan Franzen (winner of the National Book Award), Olga Tokarczuk (winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature), Hideo Okuda (winner of the Naoki Award), Shuichi Yoshida, and Shion Miura. In addition, our popular non-fiction titles by authors like Thomas Piketty, Alain de Botton, and Peter Bieri have helped expand our readership.
At this year’s Online Publishers Roundtable, I look forward to sharing works by several Korean writers who have already been introduced overseas, such as Cho Nam-ju’s For Gomaneci and Sohn Won-pyung’s Counter Attack at Thirty and Prism. In addition, I’d like to introduce works by up-and-coming young Korean writers, including Chung Serang’s Jaein, Jaeuk, and Jaehun, Choi Jin-Young’s Gu’s Proof, and I Seosu’s Help Me, Sister. Given the writers’ profiles, responses from Korean readers, and plots, these three works are expected to have a great deal of international appeal. Plus, I’d like to recommend Han Yi-ri’s debut novel The Guernica Bull to any publisher looking for a new voice from Korea that has popular appeal. Han’s book is a psychological thriller with a gripping narrative arc and a solid plot.

R. 마틴, 퓰리처 수상작가 콜슨 화이트헤드, 전미도서상 수상작가인 조너선 프랜즌과 노벨문학상 수상작가인 올가 토카르추크와 같은 저명한 작가들을 국내에 소개해왔고, 나오키상 수상작가인 오쿠다 히데오, 요시다 슈이치, 미우라 시온 등 국내 독자들에게 널리 사랑받는 일본 작가들을 비롯해, 토마 피케티, 알랭 드 보통, 페터 비에리와 같이 좋은 반응을 얻은 논픽션 저자들의 책을 출간함으로써 폭넓은 독자층의 지지를 받고 있습니다.
이번 교류 사업을 통해 조남주 작가의 『고마네치를 위하여』, 손원평 작가의 『서른의 반격』, 『프리즘』과 같이 이미 해외에도 잘 알려진 작가들의 작품과 더불어 현재 국내에서 주목받는 젊은 작가들인 정세랑 작가의 『재인, 재욱, 재훈』, 최진영 작가의 『구의 증명』, 이서수 작가의 신작 『헬프 미 시스터』도 적극적으로 소개하고 싶습니다. 세 작품 모두 저자 프로필, 국내 반응이나 내용 면에서 다양한 국가에 어필할 수 있으리라 기대합니다. 이 외에도 제9회 대한민국콘텐츠대상 대상을 수상한 한이리 작가의 데뷔소설 『게르니카의 황소』는 영상물을 보는 듯한 흡인력과 탄탄한 전개를 갖춘 심리 스릴러로 대중적으로 어필할 수 있는 새로운 한국 작가를 찾는 출판사에게 추천하고 싶습니다. 다양한 장르에서 문학적 가치와 함께 대중적인 어필 포인트를 갖춘 작품들 위주로 소개하고 싶습니다.
