Grove Atlantic was founded in 1993 by Morgan Entrekin, who merged the historic Atlantic Monthly Press (est. 1917) with Barney Rosset’s Grove Press (first est. 1947, later Grove Weidenfeld in 1985). We have an extensive backlist with some of the most exciting voices of the 20th century, including playwrights Samuel Beckett and Eugène Ionesco, Beat writers including Jack Kerouac, William S. Burroughs, and Allen Ginsberg, and Nobel Prize winners, including Kenzaburo Oe, Harold Pinter, and Pablo Neruda.
Today, Grove Atlantic publishes exclusively adult trade fiction and nonfiction, focusing on groundbreaking literary fiction, narrative/literary nonfiction, and excellent crime fiction, as well as our drama list and the occasional poetry title. Some of our most recent success stories include Shuggie Bain by Douglas Stuart, winner of the Booker Prize, Wilmington’s Lie by David Zucchino, winner of the Pulitzer Prize, and The Yellow House by Sarah M. Broom, winner of the National Book Award. We have four imprints: Atlantic Monthly Press, Grove Press, Black Cat (our paperback original line), and Roxane Gay Books, which was established with the bestselling Grove author in 2021.
I joined Grove in October 2017 and am now an Assistant Editor working closely with Deputy Publisher Peter Blackstock and Executive Editor George Gibson. I am beginning to acquire extremely selectively for my own list at Grove, and am particularly interested in literary fiction, work in translation, and literary nonfiction.
I am most personally interested in literary fiction, and Grove would also be eager to take on a Korean crime author as well. We recently published Sang Young Park’s beautiful Love in the Big City, translated by the heroic Anton Hur and now longlisted for the International Booker Prize, and I particularly love the strong voice and vivid details of that book. I am particularly interested in the lives of real people and contemporary settings, rather than more speculative or sci-fi leanings, and Grove generally does not publish genre fiction (besides crime), so I am most interested in work that suits the literary category above all else. I am also interested in literary nonfiction, including essays, memoir, and cultural criticism.

저는 2017년 10월에 입사하여 현재는 보조 편집자로서 부발행인 피터 블랙스톡과 총괄 편집장 조지 깁슨과 긴밀히 협력하고 있습니다. 그리고 최근에는 저의 그로브 리스트를 위해 엄선된 작품의 저작권을 획득하기 시작했으며 특히 소설, 번역도서 및 문학적 논픽션에 관심이 있습니다.
개인적으로 소설에 가장 관심이 많고, 그로브 또한 한국 범죄소설 작가를 찾고 있습니다. 최근 저희가 출간한 박상영 작가의 『대도시의 사랑법』(안톤 허 번역) 영역본은 2022년 인터내셔널 부커상 후보에 오르기도 하였습니다. 저는 특히 이 작품에 담긴 강렬한 목소리와 생생한 디테일에 매료되었습니다. 저는 사변적이거나 공상과학적인 내용보다는 실존 인물의 삶과 동시대적 배경에 특히 관심이 많습니다. 나아가 그로브가 일반적으로 장르소설(범죄소설 제외)을 출간하지 않기 때문에 문학 카테고리에 맞는 작품을 가장 찾고 있습니다. 덧붙여 에세이, 회고록, 문화비평을 포함한 문학적 논픽션에도 관심이 있습니다.
