Minumsa, which directly translates to “faithfully conveying the voices of the people,” took its first step in 1966. For the past 55 years, Minumsa has worked tirelessly to cultivate humanistic values and discover new, emerging writers. Our World Literature series has set new standards for classics with its highly selective list of excellent Korean translations of works by such world-renowned writers as Kazuo Ishiguro, Orhan Pamuk, and Olga Tokarczuk. In addition, our Today’s Young Writers series plays a key role in discovering and introducing young Korean novelists. In terms of international sales, we’ve successfully sold the translations of Kim Ji-young, Born 1982; School Nurse File; Concerning My Daughter; and Simple Heart. Furthermore, by publishing non-fiction works by some of the world’s greatest scholars—such as Martha Nussbaum and Jeremy Rifkin—as well as Eastern classics, Minumsa serves as an important intellectual axis of the Korean publishing industry.

1966년 ‘백성의 소리를 올곧게 담는다.’라는 뜻의 ‘민음사’가 출판의 첫발을 내디뎠습니다. 55년간 민음사는 인문학적 가치를 함양하고 젊은 작가를 발굴하기 위해 끊임없이 노력해 왔습니다. 정확한 번역과 정제된 목록으로 고전의 기준이 된 ‘세계문학전집’을 필두로 오르한 파묵, 가즈오 이시구로, 올가 토카르추크 등의 세계적인 작가를 국내에 알렸으며 ‘오늘의 젊은 작가’ 시리즈를 통해 한국의 젊은 소설가들을 적극적으로 발굴하고 있습니다. 『82년생 김지영』, 『보건교사 안은영』, 『딸에 대하여』, 『단순한 진심』 등을 해외에 번역 수출하는 성과를 보이고 있습니다. 또한 제러미 리프킨, 마사 너스바움 등 해외 석학들을 소개하는 한편, 동양 고전을 꾸준히 출간하여 한국 출판의 지적 축대 역할을 하고 있습니다.
