Wisdom House is a contents group that not only publishes high-quality books that deliver knowledge, culture, and information paramount to contemporary readers, but also provide webtoon and web fiction that's fun, sophisticated, and touching. Based on such content, we create higher value by linking up with film, TV, and animation industries. We expand the existing realm of publication and produce useful source content by communicating with readers through various channels. With the aim of becoming the most reader-oriented publishing group in Korea, we put the reader's experience above all else, and envision a fun and rich life for all our readers. As the manager of Wisdomhouse's Story Readers Team, I work toward the mission of "saving the world with stories." My responsibilities include developing new stories required by the times, discovering new storytellers, and building a community that connects readers and writers through stories.
At this year's Online Publishers Roundtable, we'd like to introduce two novels by Gu Byeong-mo. Both The Boy with Gills and One Spoon of Time are relatively less well-known than her novel Bruised Fruit.
The Boy with Gills is Gu Byeong-mo's representative work that best conveys the writer's mysterious and fantastic narrative style. There has been high demand for its reprint from countless enthusiastic readers. Recently, news of its upcoming animation adaptation set in France has drawn much attention. This is a beautiful story about the secretive and heartbreaking fate of a man who puts up an intense struggle at the threshold of death and gains grills.
One Spoon of Time presents a warm portrait of the joys and sorrows of human life as seen through the eyes of a robot. Its film adaptation is currently under production. Gu's unique explorations of universal human values are sure to bring comfort and strike a chord with overseas readers.
